The term “maximum” refers to the dollar amount allowed per benefit period, which is typically one calendar year or 12 consecutive months. Geha Connection offers a number of dental insurance plans, some with maximums on the lower end, such as $1000 per benefit period and some more comprehensive plans with benefits in the $2500 range. Some elective and specialty cosmetic treatments, such as teeth whitening, will not be applied to your maximum because they are not covered. But basic care, such as fillings, major treatments like crowns and bridges, and even preventive care such as cleanings, are covered and when your insurance pays for them it will deducted from your maximum. Also, it’s important to understand that despite having dental insurance with Geha Connection, not every procedure is covered at 100%. Based on the treatment, your dental insurance will pay a percentage, and the remaining cost will be yours to pay.
Most Geha Connection Dental insurance plans stipulate a deductible prior to paying for dental care. Deductibles often do not apply to preventive care but are required prior to basic and major restorative treatment payment. Deductibles only need to be paid once per benefit period and will be required again after the insurance plan renews.
