Dr. Antonious was a dental assistant for 2 years and he would like to give back to the profession and the community. He believes that dental assistants play a crucial part in the delivery of excellent dentistry. Due to the obvious shortage of dental assistant graduates and the increased demand for their services, he would like to encourage bright and diligent minds to take up dental assisting as a career.
Dr. Antonious named this scholarship after his assistant Julia Cachola, RDA, in recognition of her excellent skills and loyalty over the past 16 years.
The winner will receive a $1,000 award that will be applied towards their dental assistant education.
Who is Eligible?
Applicants must be EITHER accepted into a dental assisting school (Beginning Fall 2020 semester) OR students that are currently enrolled in a dental assisting school as of the Fall 2020 semester.
We are asking students to write a 300-word essay that addresses the following prompt:
Why did you choose to become a dental assistant?
Evaluation & Scoring
- Dr. Antonious and Julia Cachola will review the submissions and score each one on a 10 point scale. 10 being the highest score. Both scores will be added together.
- The applicant that scores a 20 or closest to 20 will be the clear winner of the grant.
What if There’s a Tie?
In the event of a tie, Dr. Antonious and Julia will conduct a 10-minute phone interview with the top 2 applicants to decide the winner.
If Dr. Antonious and Julia cannot reach a mutual agreement on a winner, then Julia will declare the first-place winner for the $1,000 scholarship.
Dr. Antonious’s choice will be the “runner up” and that student will receive an $800 scholarship.
