A dental plan maximum is the dollar amount allowed per benefit period; typically 12 consecutive months or one calendar year. Principal Dental Insurance offers a variety of dental insurance plans, with an array of plan maximums. Some plans are more comprehensive with period maximums in the $2500 range and some are less beneficial with maximums around $1000 per benefit period. Maximums renew on the plan’s renewal date. Elective and cosmetic procedures are usually not covered by dental insurance and will have no impact on the plan’s maximum. However, treatments such as cleanings, fillings and crowns do qualify and will be paid on a predetermined percentage. If the care rendered is not covered at 100%, the remaining percent will be your responsibility.

Most Principal Dental Insurance Plans require a deductible to be paid by you prior to the plan providing benefits for dental care. Sometimes, deductibles are not required. Principal will pay for preventive care, such as cleanings, but restorative and major dental procedures will require a deducible to be paid one time per benefit period.
