Cigna offers a variety of dental preferred provider (PPO) plans for individuals and families with or without Cigna medical insurance. Cigna PPO dental insurance plans cover all or portions of a wide variety of covered services. Sunnyvale Dentist Dr. Gupta is a Cigna dental PPO provider.
Like most dental insurance, Cigna PPO plans have annual maximums, deductibles, and cover a percentage of dental procedures under three categories: Preventative, Basic, and Major.
Examples of Preventative Diagnostic Services are: Oral Exams, Routine Cleanings, Routine X-Rays, Fluoride Treatments, and Sealants. Most Cigna PPO plans cover preventative services at 80% to 100%.
Examples of Basic Restorative Services are: Fillings and Routine Tooth Extraction. Most Cigna PPO plans cover basic services at 60% to 80%.
Examples of Major Restorative Services are: Crowns, Bridges, Dentures, and Partials. Most Cigna PPO plans cover major services at 50%.
Depending on the individual plan, procedures such as Deep Cleaning, Root Canal Therapy, and Oral Surgery would be considered either basic or major services. Some Cigna PPO plans have waiting periods for basic and/or major services. This period of time that a patient has to wait for certain procedures to be covered, which is usually six months to a year. Annual deductibles may range from $25 to $100 per year per person. Annual maximums may vary from $1000 to $2500. Some Cigna PPO plans also have separate Orthodontic coverage.
Some oral procedures are covered under medical insurance and not dental insurance such as temporal mandibular joint (TMJ) treatment. Some procedures also have age limitations such as sealants, fluoride, and orthodontics. Dental coverage for dependent children also is limited by age.
