While small enough to be bonded to the fronts of your teeth, the metal brackets of traditional braces can still shine conspicuously against the pearly-white backdrop of your smile. After your orthodontic treatment is complete, your smile will be straighter, more symmetrical, and more esthetically pleasing. During treatment, however, many patients find that the noticeable braces detract from their smile’s appearance. Though you can’t hide conventional braces, you may be able to choose an alternative, like Invisalign® clear aligners that don’t use brackets or wires at all.
What are Invisalign® clear braces?
Invisalign braces are custom-crafted to fit snugly over your teeth, and are clear for optimal discretion. Instead of brackets with arch wires threaded through them, Invisalign’s “braces” are actually solid aligners made from clear, comfortable acrylic. Each aligner in your series will be designed to move certain teeth at a time by applying gentle, controlled force. After a couple of weeks, you’ll change your aligners for the next in the series, which will continue moving your teeth towards their desired positions.
What can I eat with Invisalign® aligners?
Unlike braces, Invisalign’s aligners are removable, allowing you to continue eating and drinking the same meals and beverages as before. You can also temporarily remove your aligners to brush and floss your teeth, making your hygiene routine less complicated and more effective than with conventional braces.
How long does Invisalign® treatment take?
Moving teeth is a delicate procedure. For the jawbone and ligaments that support your teeth’s roots to shift successfully without sustaining damage, orthodontic braces (including Invisalign) must move teeth slowly and gradually. In most cases, Invisalign aligners require about the same amount of time as braces do to complete their work. Yet, by eliminating the need to periodically tighten wires, Invisalign braces significantly free up your schedule throughout the duration of your treatment.
