There are several terms and parameters involved in dental insurance. Maximum
As the term implies, maximum is the total amount of money Cigna provides for your dental care in a benefit period. Maximums vary based on your specific Cigna plan and can range from the high end of $2500 per benefit period, to $1000 on the low end. Benefit periods are typically either 12 consecutive months or 1 calendar year. Some treatments we provide here at Sunnyvale Dental Care are not covered by your Cigna plan and have no impact on your maximum. Teeth whitening, most cosmetic and elective procedures are examples of non-covered treatments. Also, Cigna will reimburse on a percentage based on the type of treatment provided. Preventive care is often covered at 100%, basic restorative, periodontal care and major restorative often times have payment payouts between 50-80%.
Deductible
Similar to car insurance, dental insurance plans have deductibles that need to be met prior to the plan paying for care. Deductibles are typically quite nominal, around $25-50, and only need to be paid one time during a benefit period. Not all treatments require a deductible to be applied first and most preventive care, such as cleanings, often fall into that category.
