Aetna’s dental plan maximum refers to the total dollar amount allowable to you for usage at your dental office during a benefit period, which is typically one calendar year or 12 consecutive months. As stated above, plans vary and you may have a considerable maximum allowable, such as $3000 per benefit period, or a less comprehensive plan with a maximum of $1000 to apply toward dental care. In addition, not all services available to you here at Sunnyvale Dental Care will qualify as covered benefits through Aetna. For example, teeth whitening, which is a cosmetic procedure will not be covered by your dental insurance. However, most preventive care (like cleanings) restorative treatments (such as fillings and root canals) and major restorative treatments (such as crowns, bridges and dentures) will be a covered benefit. It’s also important to understand that not all procedures will be covered at 100% and the remaining balance not paid by insurance will be an out of pocket cost.
Deductible refers to the amount you have to pay for dental services before your Aetna plan will begin to pay benefits for dental care. Not all services require a deductible to be paid first, but many do. Often times deductibles are a relatively nominal fee, around $25-75 and they need only be applied once per benefit period.
